Our Story

Celebrating Irish Craft Since 1982

Founded in 1982, Carrolls Irish Gifts has grown from a single shop in Dundrum to Ireland’s leading Irish giftware retailer, with 20 stores nationwide, a thriving global eCommerce business, and a proud legacy of supporting Irish makers, designers, and brands.

For over four decades, Carrolls has been at the heart of Irish retail. Whether you're visiting Ireland for the first time, gifting to loved ones abroad, or discovering Irish craft at home - Carrolls offers a wide range of handpicked Irish gifts, fashion, jewellery, homeware, wellness, and food that celebrate Irish culture and design.

Our Legacy

From humble beginnings to becoming Ireland’s largest Irish gift retailer, Carrolls remains a family-founded business, still run with passion and purpose. Four of our founder’s five children now work in the company, and our founder continues to serve as Chairman and mentor, proudly watching a new generation take the reins.

Carrolls has weathered recessions, global pandemics, and shifting retail trends by staying true to its values: family, Irish culture, innovation, and community.

We know Irish gifting - we’ve been doing it for over 40 years, and we’re just getting started.

Building A National Brand

What began as a small retail venture has grown into a national brand. Built on entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for Irish heritage, and bold decision-making, Carrolls has continuously evolved. From humble roots to a brand synonymous with Irish craft, quality, and experience.

In 1998, the brand pivoted exclusively to Irish-made and inspired products, becoming a trusted retailer for both visitors and locals. Today, we proudly employ over 350 people from 33 nationalities and we continue to connect the world with the best of Ireland through our flagship website, carrollsirishgifts.com.

Proudly Supporting Irish Makers

Carrolls is passionate about promoting the very best of Irish craftsmanship. Over 75% of our products are sourced from Irish suppliers, including iconic names like Newbridge Silverware, Guinness, Aran Woollen Mills, and Baileys.

We’re also committed to supporting a new generation of Irish talent, offering a platform to emerging Irish designers and makers like Herb Dublin, Kelly Hood, Irish Socksciety, and Moher Soap Company. These unique collections speak to a modern Ireland while keeping heritage at heart.

Looking Ahead To The Future

Today, Carrolls Irish Gifts is led by a dynamic team and CEO Peter Hyland. With strong foundations and a renewed retail vision following the challenges of the pandemic, Carrolls is expanding its offering beyond traditional gifts — with exciting new categories in homeware, wellness, Irish food & hampers, and beauty.

With 20 stores opened nationwide and continued investment in our online experience, our goal is simple: to become the number one destination for Irish gifting at home and abroad.
